My Poems

Broken Cabinet

She hated men

She hated them

All

As she always saw them

Coming In

And Out Of

Her mother’s room

Sombre and dark

Where she lay unconscious

Almost

While the men wore a mask of

Several emotions –

Satisfied

Violent

Happy

Anger

And emotions she didn’t understand…

Her mother hid her

In the cabinet

Near her sombre room

And told her to be silent

Blind

And cold

As the stone that

Pushed the cabinet door inward

So that no men can

Hear the whisper of her innocent breath

And maul it

For their pleasure

She hated men

She hated them

All

Until

She fell in love

With a man who

Instead of ripping her

Or her mother

Ripped

The wooden cabinet apart.
